                                        NASA’s brutal selection process

Space flight for the average person is still a while away, but it might be quicker and easier than actually becoming an astronaut.

NASA and SpaceX made history on Sunday, sending two astronauts into space, but turns out they weren’t the only ones on board.

                                        SpaceX prototype explodes during test

A SpaceX launch vehicle prototype burst into flames during a test at a Texas launchpad Friday afternoon.

The blast just a day before two NASA astronauts are due to be launched into space is a setback for SpaceX owner Elon Musk.

NASA and SpaceX have scrubbed an historic launch that would have sent the first crewed flight to space from the US in almost a decade.

They show that the star has a vast plume of gas almost as large as our Solar System and a gigantic bubble boiling on its surface. These discoveries provide important clues to help explain how these mammoths shed material at such a tremendous rate. The scale in units of the radius of Betelgeuse as well as a comparison with the Solar System is also provided.

Astronomers were obsessed over a dimming star, thinking it could go supernova and explode. But the reality isn’t quite what they thought.

                                        Near star could soon explode

This NASA image obtained February 15, 2012, combines data from four space telescopes to create a multi-wavelength view of all that remains of RCW 86, the oldest documented example of a supernova. Chinese astronomers witnessed the event in 185 A.D., documenting a mysterious 'guest star' that remained in the sky for eight months. X-ray images from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory and the European Space Agency's XMM-Newton Observatory were combined to form the blue and green colors in the image. The X-rays show the interstellar gas that has been heated to millions of degrees by the passage of the shock wave from the supernova. Infrared data from NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope and WISE, Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer, shown in yellow and red, reveal dust radiating at a temperature of several hundred degrees below zero, warm by comparison to normal dust in our Milky Way galaxy. This is the first time that this type of cavity has been seen around a white dwarf system prior to explosion. Scientists say the results may have significant implications for theories of white-dwarf binary systems and Type Ia supernovae.RCW 86 is approximately 8,000 light-years away. At about 85 light-years in diameter, it occupies a region of the sky in the southern constellation of Circinus that is slightly larger than the full moon.
